For those riders who are seeking more thrills and spills off-road than they are on road, the women's specific Giant Tempt 2 delivers.
Modelled on the one of the best selling performance mountain bikes, the Talon range, the Tempt seeks to emulate - except specifically for women. The Tempt 27.5 2 adapts the new 27.5-inch wheel standard coupled with solid and reliable hardware to give riders a well-rounded performance package.
The Tempt 2 features Giant’s superbly finished and lightweight ALUXX aluminium frame. Geometry is tuned so that women will find the Tempt comfortable. The Tempt has not been designed as a race bike, rather its wheelbase and front end promote stability and relatively relaxed riding position, respectively. Compared to a 29-inch mountain bike, the 27.5-inch wheel diameter (or 650B) gives improved standover clearance making the bike easier to manoeuvre over obstacles that are typical of cross country trails.
The wheel size makes the bike more nimble through tight twisty single track and holds speed out of corners well. Realistically, although the Tempt’s design intent may be clear, many will not ride the Tempt where it’s designed to be used. They may be riding for leisure on bike paths or casually along a rail trail. Regardless, the frame geometry of the Tempt makes it versatile.
The Tempt 2 build package will appeal to the consumer who is looking for an efficient drive train and perhaps a quality suspension system for those times when off-road control and comfort are paramount.
The Shimano Alivio Shadow drive train recently went through some large scale changes both aesthetically and functionally. The most important change is that it’s compatible with 9 cogs on the rear cassette. Shadow drive trains are the most efficient and also provide the smoothest quality of gear shifts. The Acera shifters provide solid performance and reliability. The Alivio Shadow rear derailleur is neatly tucked inboard the frame and prevents the part from getting hooked on trail debris such as rocks and tree branches. The Alivio rear derailleur provides smooth and crisp shifts due to a stronger pulley cage.
For those looking to ride cross country, the Rock Shox XC 30 front suspension fork results in a smooth, controlled, and plush feeling fork. The XC 30 is a hydraulically dampened fork and is a significant upgrade over the cheaper elastomer-based suspension systems which can sometimes feel harsh on slightly more demanding off-road conditions. The hydraulic damper is smoother throughout its stroke and also offers rebound adjustment which is a key off-road feature as it determines how fast a suspension reacts to bumps, effectively giving the rider more control over the terrain they are riding.
However you wish to use this bike, it is relatively light, with responsive handling and crisp gear changes, in other words, it is a pleasure to use.
